Cupping  is a therapeutic process for removing, 'unclean blood' from the body. It is a form of medical treatment which has been recommended by the Prophetic tradition (sunnah). Simply like removing the old oil from a car every year, we should do the same for our bodies remove the old and let the new blood replenish and refresh our bodies.

The oldest recorded medical textbook, Ebers Papyrus, written in approximately 1550 BCE in Egypt mentions cupping (Curtis, 2005). In the UK the practice also dates back a long way with one of the leading medical journals 'The Lancet' being named after this practice as it means the surgical instrument that scrapes the skin to create the bleeding points.

Prophetic Saying:

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) said, "Healing is in three things: A gulp of honey, cupping, and branding with fire (cauterizing). But I forbid my followers to use (cauterization) branding with fire."
